About Me
I am a settler historian living in the territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) Peoples in what is now known as Victoria, British Columbia.
I began my career as a historian in 2014, when I spent a summer writing reports for the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. Since then, I have undertaken dozens of oral histories, Traditional Knowledge and Land Use Studies, and archival projects for private firms, government, legal teams, museums, faith groups, and Indigenous clients. I am proud to have contributed to projects informing land stewardship, rights assertion, and cultural heritage.
I earned my PhD in History from the University of Victoria in 2025. While I am always learning, my academic and professional experience affords me a particular expertise in ethnohistory methods and histories of Indigenous peoples and colonization in British Columbia and the North American West. I have worked in many repositories but am especially familiar with materials at the BC Archives, Land Title and Survey Authority of BC, Hudson's Bay Company Archives, and Library and Archives Canada.
When I'm not in the archives, I can be found playing music or hiking the coastal landscapes I love to research and write about.
I look forward to working with you.

Excellent research and analysis services... I hope that we will be able to work on other projects in the future - I have the highest regard for his work.

Jesse has impressed me with his diligence, thoroughness, organization, and creativity as a researcher. He has a rare combination of skills that include careful attention to detail as well as the ability to see the large picture and scope potential unusual sources that others will often miss. Also important to me: he has always met deadlines.
